An Enchanted Vacation
Faywood and Beyond

After touring around Northern New mexico, we headed south, and spent a couple of very enjoyable days at Faywood Hot Springs. This resort, located "next door" to City of Rocks State Park in Southwestern New Mexico, has a long and interesting history.

And some great soaking pools. Clothing Optional Again!

Wish we could have spent more time there, but vacation was running out, and we had to go to my brithday choice, Carlsbad Caverns. So we headed east to Carlsbad. Between Faywood and Carlsbad is White Sands National Monument, a vast exspanse of miles and miles of nothing but miles and miles, where the first Atomic Bomb was exploded (at the Trinity Site).

Here's a picture a friend took while driving around White Sands, a photo of a sign telling you not to take photographs.

To get to Carlsbad you can go north, through Alamogordo, N.M., or south through Las Cruces, N.M. and El Paso, TX.. I am still not sure why (except that it measured shorter on the map, and it was the wrong time of year to tour the Trinity Site.) we went this way, and after getting stopped by the Border Patrol in Texas and being asked for proof of citizenship (? All we had were FL. drivers licenses) and inspected, detected and neglected, I am fairly sure we won't go that way again. I must make it clear that we never left the country. Although it was hard to tell.

So, we finally made it back into New Mexico, passing by the Guadalupe Mountains, on our way to Carlsbad (the Caverns) and Carlsbad (the City). We were going to stay at White's City, which is right near the Caverns, but they were full up and at $70- a night, we couldn't afford it anyway. So we went on into town and stayed at Great Western Inn & Suites, not the Ritz, but real nice folks, affordable, and an indoor heated pool (Clothing Required).

Off the next morning to tour Carlsbad Caverns.
